Great! Instr. on toner reset
Love this printer. Below you will find instructions on resetting the toner to 'full' that I copied from another brother printer's review that also work on this unit (I am not the original author). Often you can get extra life from your toner this way:
** TO RESET TONER **
This will make your printer believe it has a brand new toner. Once it says toner low, you can reset it and just print until it runs dry, instead of replacing the toner when you still have 500 prints left.
1) Get to the home screen, if you are stuck at the "Toner Low" or "Replace Toner" message, just press the red X
2) Press the FAX button on the touch screen. This is ONLY to light up the numbers so you can....
3) LOCATE and only locate, don't press, the * (asterisk) button. You know where it is now, somewhere to the right of the Red X button
4) Press the glowing home button to get home.
5) Open the top as if you were going to change the toner, but don't remove any...

Sick and tired of inkjets drying up, having to constantly reboot the printer and computer to scan or print, irritated by less than satisfactory print jobs, I decided to try a different brand of multifunction printer than the last 8 I've wasted time and money on. The Brother is a little pricier than the others but, it seems I'm finally getting what I've paid for, a printer-scanner-copier (and fax that I don't use) that just works! I load a document or picture and hit scan and it scans, both sides at the same time if I want. The printing looks fabulous! Printing laser quality documents, I expected to look good, but was totally amazed at the quality of pictures, the color is wonderful and I didn't have to replace an ink cartridge after a couple of 8 X 10's. This was bought for home use, not business. I scan a lot but print only every couple of months (just enough time for inkjet cartridges to dry up). Great printer and Airprint not working on sleep with IOS7 solution
This is a great printer. I've been researching around quite a bit, and found that this is only one of the very few printers (maybe the only one) in this price range and size that:
a) Has a duplex ADF scanner without having to manually flip
b) Has a duplex printer without having to manually flip
c) Has a scan and email function, scan to network drive and scan to FTP function
d) Is color and Laser
e) Supports Airprint without any app
f) can be controlled using its touch screen directly and not via a computer only
I know a lot of people talk about Ink cartridges being better value for money, but I've consistently had bad experience with them (ink drying up with less use). Note that I don't use it as a photo printer - my primary need is to print regular documents/pages and scan stuff.
