Best bang for the buck in an AIO. Superior Brother quality.
I have been using Brother LED printers for years. I should preface this review with the fact that I am a computer consultant with advanced knowledge of computer equipment and printers. I was impressed with this unit's features and price. Out of the box this unit worked flawlessly. The machine is rather large, but does not take up a lot of room. It's footprint is very compact for a color laser printer.
I went through a battery of tests to verify that all functions worked. There were no problems. Set up was a breeze. I have several computers on the network and they all connected without problem. This unit is essentially the same as the 9325cw only without the annoying wireless networking option. I felt it was not worth the extra cost as I don't consider wireless printers to be reliable or fast enough for a small office. Wireless network printing gets me lots of calls because it constantly has to be reset and reconnected every time the router is reset or reprogrammed...
Overall, a solid color laser
Overall, this is a solid color laser printer from Brother. Recently, I decided I needed the ability to occasionally print color from my printer. I previously had a Brother MFC-8840D which was a monochrome workhorse -- but for color, I had an inkjet printer that I would keep in the closet until I needed it.. After months of non-use, color inkjet cartridges dry up, requiring an expensive trip to your local Staples for ink cartridges just to print a few color documents.
Pros on this unit:
- Its fast. First page out in B&W or color is quick.. Subsequent pages spit out very fast as well.
- I've generally found Brother products to be superior to others such as HP - even though HP tends to be more expensive.
Cons:
- the starter cartridges will only get you about 200 pages. A new set of regular cartridges is $200.
- colors are a bit on the dark side. Don't get this printer if you plan on printing photos from it.. Thats just not the...
Heck of a deal!
I was getting really tired of inkjet printers which would dry up on you unless you used them constantly, and had picked up a little Brother 2820 laser printer which worked flawlessly no matter how long it sat between jobs, but I needed a wireless printer and I sort of wanted color also. I looked at a lot of machines, and I was repeatedly drawn to the Brother printers. In particular I was attracted to the Brother 9325, which was a wireless color digital printer with excellent reviews. (not exactly a laser, but close enough so as to make no real difference) But I was not happy with the price, which was about $450 at the time. Upon further looking I came upon the Brother 9125, which was the same machine without wireless (and a little flashcard port which was sort of useless anyway).
